2. Better protection against competitive spying

Trade secrets and confidential information are the backbone of any business. Cybersecurity measures help to protect this sensitive data and minimize the risk of industrial espionage. Through the use of encryption technologies and secure communicationchannels, SMBs can protect their business information from unauthorized access.

Another important aspect is the implementation of access rights and authentication mechanisms. Only authorized persons should have access to sensitive information. This supports the economic success of your company by ensuring that confidentialData will not fall into the wrong hands.

3. Systematic protection of IT systems

Systematic protection of IT systems is crucial to identify and remedy vulnerabilities. An IT security audit or certificate enables SMEs and authorities to systematicallyto look for security gaps in their IT systems and to develop suitable security concepts.

Together with their network partners, the European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIH) offer comprehensive support in improving the IT security of companies. In many regions, including Berlin-Brandenburg, regional networks are available that provide SMEs with freeadvise on IT security issues. Regular audits and tests can identify and fix potential vulnerabilities early on before they become a serious problem.

The improvement of IT security is not only driven by commercial providers, but alsoh through charitable initiatives. Together with its network partners, EDIH pro_digital offers free consultations on IT security for SMEs. This support helps companies optimize their IT security strategies and increase protection against cyberattacks.

Our networks offer training, workshops and individual consultations to help SMEsto take their IT security to a higher level. Close collaboration allows companies to benefit from the experience and expertise of others.

5. Improvement of legal requirements

In order to ensure data protection in Germany, there are various laws that companies comply withthese include the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the NIS2 Directive and the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA). These laws set security standards and define the obligations of companies when dealing with personal data.

SMEs should familiarise themselves with these laws to ensure they have the necessary safeguards in place.and fulfil their legal obligations. The European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIH) provide support in complying with these regulations and help companies to inform themselves about their security obligations and possible sanctions.

AI evening in Spremberg – A glimpse into the future of artificial intelligence

20.11.2024

With the lecture, Martin Lautsch, an experienced AI expert at the Brandenburg Technical University, led the audience through a historical overview of artificial intelligence and thus gave an insight into the development of this technology from its beginnings to today's modern applications. Particular attention was paid to the functioning of machine learning and deep learning, as central pillars of AI. Lautsch explained how computers with algorithms and neural networks can independently recognize patterns and learn from them to perform complex tasks.

Following the theoretical introduction, Lautsch was able to take the audience on an exciting journey through various AI applications in everyday life. Participants learned how Artificial Intelligence works and how it plays a role in numerous areas such as voice assistants (e.g. Alexa and Siri), medical technology, the care industry and even in the development of autonomous vehicles. The many real-world applications of AI made it clear how far the technology is already anchored in our daily lives and what potential it offers for the future.

After the presentation there was an intensive and stimulating discussion about the opportunities and risks of AI with a variety of questions. On the one hand, the enormous opportunities offered by AI were discussed, such as improving diagnoses in medicine, automating processes in industry or improving education and research. On the other hand, the concern was also expressed that AI could replace jobs in the future and increase inequality in society. The participants discussed intensively how society could deal with these challenges in order to benefit from the advantages of AI without losing sight of the risks. Lautsch was able to be well-founded about the development of AI not only in science but also contribute his knowledge of political decisions. The debate about the ethical implications and how to use AI responsibly was a central topic at the end of the event. How can you ensure that AI benefits not only the big tech companies, but also the general population? What rules and regulations must be created in order to protect privacy and avoid discrimination by AI?

At the end of the evening, it was emphasized once again how important it is that both experts and the general public create awareness of developments in the field of AI. Only by working together with this technology can we ensure that AI will be able to play a positive and sustainable role in our society.
Overall, the AI evening in Spremberg was a complete success, which not only enriched the participants with knowledge, but also stimulated them to think about the future of AI and its impact on our lives. If you want to learn more about the topic, you should also check out the future events of the EDIH pro_digital.

This evening was organized together with the Spremberg Presence Centre and the District Folk School in Spremberg
